They were eager to have their own chickens in the beginning of Spring 2020. The idea of having a better understanding where their food came from was very fascinating and chickens were a great way to start that journey. They would love to triple the amount of chickens they own to meet their new demand if the housing market ever settles down!
With Dylan’s skills in wood working and Madeline's passion for creativity - the Karma Coop was built. As they were patiently waiting for their chicks to arrive, they started sharing their journey on Instagram. From building the coop to their low-waste lifestyle, they started to educate and inspire others. People started reaching out asking if they could purchase the homemade products that were being used on their Instagram blog. Madeline got busy in the kitchen making potions for others to purchase. With Madeline's love for marketing the Karma Coop quickly transitioned into a shop-able Instagram and Facebook blog known today as @thekarmastand.

Bella was adopted from the SPCA in Canmore, Alberta in February 2019. She was born in late 2017 and did not have the easiest first year of life - until she was rescued. Bella suffered from broken ribs and vertebrae due to repetitive physical abuse. She was used to breed at such a young age. She was locked outside most of the time which is how the neighbours noticed and called it in. We advocate for the voiceless and urge you to #adoptdontshop. Bella loves to hike, longboard, and keep predators away from her chickens. She has been with the chickens since they were a day old and is incredibly gentle. Bella joins Madeline and Dylan everywhere they go! Botanix Garden Center and Neighbours Country Depot in Alliston are some of Bella's favourite stores - they always give her lots of treats!
